The Sean McLeod Dance
Experience Debuts in the United Kingdom at the Fairfields Arts Centre
England's Fairfields Arts Centre welcomed
the Sean McLeod Dance Experience from
New York for their Debut in the UK on
September 13, 2008. Two members of the
company, the award-winning American Choreographer Sean McLeod, and International Dancer Lorienne Beals, had performed at Fairfields' "International Dance Day" concert in May. The Centre were so please by their work that they invited the new full company to come back from NY, as part of the start of an ongoing relationship with the UK.
The performers included Jerami Kipp, Jamie Beth Weigand, Anne Hubben, Sean McLeod and Lorienne Beals from New York. Also joining the company for this event was Fairfields' own Artist in Residence, the dancer and Director or Vortex Dance Theatre, Paula Conduit. A special note in the evening's program read, "This is a rare chance to see dance of such a high standard from New York, particularly in the intimate setting of Fairfields Dance Studio."
Repertoire for the evening included Sean McLeod's "Cherchant Ma Voix, 2nd Movement," "Au Dernier Moment," "For Ladies," "Mon Intérieure," and "For All We Know." Pieces by special guest choreographers included Lorienne
Beals' "James Bond," Vancouver, BC's Brenna
McLaud's "Déchiré," UK-based Brazilian Dancer Paula Conduit's "Glee," and International Dancer Jerami Kipp's "L'Aube." An engaging and thoughtful question and answer session followed the performance, giving audience members a
unique inside view to the choreographer's
process.
