Sean McLeod: Biography


Acknowledged as a Keynote Speaker, Corporate Facilitator, and Life Motivator; Sean McLeod is an award winning Producer, Artistic Ambassador, and American Choreographer whose work spans more than 20 years and three continents. Mr. McLeod works in New York City as well as in major cities across the US, internationally to the West Indies, the Caribbean, Europe, and Africa.

Mr. McLeod attended the Conservatory of Dance at the State University of New York at Purchase, and has established himself as successful consultant and corporate facilitator. Over the past 20 years Mr. McLeod has awarded more than 100 thousand dollars to emerging artists, and helped jump start many new dance careers by presenting scholarships and choreographic residencies to the New York Dance Festival and the New York Institute of Dance and Education. Mr. McLeod Chairs the selection committee of the Janet Collins Fellowship and Executive Produces the Carmen DeLavallade Award for Dance. Mr. McLeod has lectured, consulted, or taught for countless institutions, touching the lives of more than 25,000 people a year through residencies, leadership training, and workshops.

Sean McLeod was invited to the United Kingdom to premiere three of his dance works in the “International Dance Day” Concert in Basingstoke, England.  The International event showcased an exciting mix of work by choreographers and dancers performing different styles from the US, Nepal, India, Brazil, and the United Kingdom.  The event highlighted the world premiere of “Cherchant Ma Voix (Searching for My Voice),” and the England premiere of “L’Equilibre (Balance)” and “Strength of Women,” performed by UK based Brazilian dancer Paula Conduit, and international dancer Lorienne Beals.

Sean McLeod returns from South Africa, and is a special guest on Central Issues, WCNYSean McLeod is president of the nationally recognized New York Institute of Dance and Education, Artistic Director of the Kaleidoscope Dance Theatre, and Executive Producer of the New York Dance Festival. Sean McLeod is an acknowledged developer of movement systems, most notably his codified "MT" McLeod Technique, MT Afro Hip Hop, and Reinforced Motor Function ® RMF which are now being taught globally. As a choreographer and multi fasciated Master Teacher, his work has last been seen in England, Vancouver, Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago, and in NYC's Symphony Space, Alvin Aliey's Citicorp Theater, and the Judson. Sean McLeod was invited to London, England to administer the first Certification Workshop for Reinforced Motor Function® at the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) studios, for the Society of Teachers of Alexander Technique (STAT).

Mr. McLeod is featured in an exhibit by the acclaimed Dance photographer, Mark Andrew.  The exhibit premired at the National Museum of Dance and features some of the world's most famous dancers from NYC Ballet, Martha Graham Dance Company, Paul Taylor Dance Company, Rebecca Kelly Ballet, Complexions Contemporary Ballet Company, and the New York Institute of Dance and Education. 

Sean McLeod is invited to South Africa by Rev. Karabo Molefe of Catch the Vision Global Mission, and he established the Mission to South Africa

Sean McLeod is tremendously versatile, a master in the performing arts and dance worlds, as well as in business and corporate facilitation

Sean McLeod is a multi-award winning producer and recipient of the coveted Jefferson Award for Public Service to America founded by the late Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, the New York State Liberty Award- the State's Highest honor, the NAACP Millennium Award, and the American Red Cross "Great American Heroes" Award for his service and diversity work.

Mr. McLeod is featured in an exhibit that premiered at the National Museum of Dance. The installation by Dance Photographer Mark Andrew, features Desmond Richardson (Complexions Dance Company), Jamie Walker (Paul Taylor), Sean McLeod (NY Instituted of Dance & Education), Jerami Kipp (Kaleidoscope Dance Theatre), Jackie Bulnes (Martha Graham Dance Company), and Peter Martins (New York City Ballet).

Sean McLeod tours the United States with the American Master Class TourSean's unique ability to blend artistic and corporate skill sets has set him apart as a visionary and true renaissance man.

Mr. McLeod is dedicated to using his abilities to facilitate the building of bridges between parties in social conflict. To meet this need, Mr. McLeod founded the New York Institute of Dance and Education; Kaleidoscope Dance Theatre (KDT); the New York Dance Festival; the New York Center for Health and Healing; the Fine Arts Dance Association (FADA); the Educational Tour on Self-esteem through Dance; Community of Color World Culture Celebration; Circles-Expanding Horizons Program; Mission to South Africa; Reaching for Higher Ground Consulting and more.

Presently Sean is Executive Producer and a Master Teacher for the Global Dance Initiative, the American Master Class Tour, and the Sean McLeod Dance Experience.
