Sean McLeod: Biography


Keynote Speaker, Corporate Facilitator, and Master of Communication, Mr. McLeod honed his skills as an International Artistic Ambassador, producer and choreographer. A world-class personality, Mr. McLeod has toured from Frankfurt, Germany and South Africa working on the "Mission to South Africa," as well as San Juan, St. Thomas, and Tortola completing the Caribbean leg of the International Drummer and Dancer Tour.

Sean McLeod returns from South Africa, and is a special guest on Central Issues, WCNYSean McLeod is president of the nationally recognized New York Institute of Dance and Education, Corporate Facilitator for Reaching For Higher Ground Consulting, and Artistic Director of the Kaleidoscope Dance Theatre. Mr. McLeod is a multi-award winning producer and recipient of the coveted Jefferson Award for Public Service to America, founded by the late Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Mr. McLeod is a “SAMMY” award winning choreographer and has received the American Red Cross "Great American Heroes" Award for his service and diversity work. Mr. McLeod received the NAACP 2006 Millennium Award, launched a new tour entitled: "Music from a Black Man's Songbook." Mr. McLeod is scheduled to choreograph the new musical "Nightingale and the Satin Woman" for the Tony nominated Broadway Producers, John and Jean Cutler, whose previous shows include: Camelot with Richard Burton, Little Foxes with Elizabeth Taylor, and My Fair Lady with Rex Harrison.

Mr. McLeod is acknowledged for his work with large and small organizations which include: the Best Friends Foundation, Washington, DC; Tracer Technologies, New York City; Girls Inc., Wilmington Delaware, and Catch the Vision Global Mission, South Africa.

Mr. McLeod is a consultant, highly respected facilitator, and Keynote speaker dedicated to using his abilities to facilitate the building of bridges between parties in social conflict. To meet this need, Mr. McLeod founded the New York Institute of Dance and Education; Kaleidoscope Dance Theatre (KDT); the New York Dance Festival; the New York Center for Health and Healing; the Fine Arts Dance Association (FADA); the Educational Tour on Self-esteem through Dance; Community of Color World Culture Celebration; Circles-Expanding Horizons Program; and Reaching for Higher Ground Consulting.

Recently, Mr. McLeod was honored by the Auburn City Council and Mayor Timothy C. Lattimore, as he was named Auburn's International Arts Ambassador, given entrance into the Ambassadors Club, and presented with the Key to the City. Mr. McLeod just embarked upon a historic project with the legendary Carmen DeLavallade. Sean is working with Mrs. DeLavallade and will have the opportunity of a lifetime, as he embarks upon an artistic journey with his life-long idol (the incomparable Carmen DeLavallade) to set the new dance work entitled "Standing on Shoulders." This works pays tribute to the essence of the legendary contributors of dance, by helping us remember the selfless acts of genuine learning that traditional dancers experience in rehearsal, and how that relationship spawned some of the world's most timeless and enduring works. This new work will feature a wide cast of talented dancers, and star Mrs. DeLavallde.

Mr. McLeod’s unique ability to blend artistic and corporate skill sets has set him apart as a visionary and true renaissance man. Mr. McLeod attended the Conservatory of Dance at the State University of New York at Purchase, and has established himself as a national and international presence as a successful conceptual consultant and corporate facilitator. Mr. McLeod opened a performance with Matthew Clark for a tribute to Gregory Hines at NYC's famed the Town Hall Theater in an evening that included Sean McLeod tours the United States with the American Master Class TourDiane Walker and Savion Glover. Mr. McLeod has lectured, consulted, or taught for countless institutions, touching the lives of more than 25,000 people a year through residencies, leadership training, and workshops.
