Sean McLeod: Biography
Acknowledged as a Keynote Speaker, Corporate Facilitator, and Life Motivator; Sean McLeod is an award winning Producer, Artistic Ambassador, and American Choreographer whose work spans more than 20 years and three continents. Mr. McLeod works in New York City as well as in major cities across the US, internationally to the West Indies, the Caribbean, Europe, and Africa.
Mr. McLeod attended the Conservatory of Dance at the State University of New York at Purchase, and has established himself as successful consultant and corporate facilitator. Over the past 20 years Mr. McLeod has awarded more than 100 thousand dollars to emerging artists, and helped jump start many new dance careers by presenting scholarships and choreographic residencies to the New York Dance Festival and the New York Institute of Dance and Education. Mr. McLeod Chairs the selection committee of the Janet Collins Fellowship and Executive Produces the Carmen DeLavallade Award for Dance. Mr. McLeod has lectured, consulted, or taught for countless institutions, touching the lives of more than 25,000 people a year through residencies, leadership training, and workshops.
Sean McLeod was invited to the United Kingdom to premiere three of his dance works in the “International Dance Day” Concert in Basingstoke, England. The International event showcased an exciting mix of work by choreographers and dancers performing different styles from the US, Nepal, India, Brazil, and the United Kingdom. The event highlighted the world premiere of “Cherchant Ma Voix (Searching for My Voice),” and the England premiere of “L’Equilibre (Balance)” and “Strength of Women,” performed by UK based Brazilian dancer Paula Conduit, and international dancer Lorienne Beals.
Sean McLeod is president of the nationally recognized New York Institute of Dance and Education, Artistic Director of the Kaleidoscope Dance Theatre, and Executive Producer of the New York Dance Festival. Sean McLeod is an acknowledged developer of movement systems, most notably his codified "MT" McLeod Technique, MT Afro Hip Hop, and Reinforced Motor Function ® RMF which are now being taught globally. As a choreographer and multi fasciated Master Teacher, his work has last been seen in England, Vancouver, Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago, and in NYC's Symphony Space, Alvin Aliey's Citicorp Theater, and the Judson. Sean McLeod was invited to London, England to administer the first Certification Workshop for Reinforced Motor Function® at the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) studios, for the Society of Teachers of Alexander Technique (STAT).
Mr. McLeod is featured in an exhibit by the acclaimed Dance photographer, Mark Andrew. The exhibit premired at the National Museum of Dance and features some of the world's most famous dancers from NYC Ballet, Martha Graham Dance Company, Paul Taylor Dance Company, Rebecca Kelly Ballet, Complexions Contemporary Ballet Company, and the New York Institute of Dance and Education.
