Gregory Livingston: Biography


Gregory Livingston was born in Washington, USA. He grew up in New York City, where he studied vocal music at Music and Art/Laguardia High School for the Performing Arts and dance at Joffrey Ballet and Dance Theater of Harlem. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Dance from the State University of New York at Purchase, taking part in works from renowned choreographers such as Paul Taylor, Jose Limón, Charles Weidman, Alfredo Corvino, Kevin Wynn and Lin Hwai Min (Taipei- Cloud Gate Dance Company).

Mr. Livingston has been living abroad since 1991. He worked in Hong Kong with the City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC), in Brussels with Dance Theater Company Feed, in Berlin with Toladá Dance Company directed by Joseph Tmim, in London with the Claire Russ Ensemble, and at the State Theater in Giessen Germany with Rui Horta as a guest choreographer and with Roberto Galvan, where he additionally worked as choreographer and company teacher.

Gregory Livingston is an international dance personality, dancing across Germany, Spain, Japan, and the U.S.

Mr. Livingston is a permanent guest faculty at the New York Institute of Dance and Education in New York. He has been performing, teaching and choreographing at the New York Dance Festival (NYDF) as well as at the summer intensive for the Kaleidoscope Dance Theater in New York since 2000. Since 2001, Mr. Livingston has been working as a freelance dancer, teacher and/or assistant in Germany, Monté Carlo, Spain, and Japan, as well as in the USA. Within Germany he teaches the dance companies of several theaters and is a permanent guest teacher in Giessen and Augsburg.

In November 2003, he received his certification as an Acupressure Massage Therapist (CAMT) from the Acupressure Institute in Berkeley, California USA. In January of 2005, Mr. Livingston featued in a theater production at the City Theater in Trier, as the “Survivor," in Ahmed Ghazalí’s European premier of “Schafe und Wale”. Before coming to the United States again this summer he has been dancing in Bremen, Germany in a production called “Nachtlichter” as well as teaching the dance company of the State Theater in Kassel.
