The Applied Study Program has placed graduates of the program in some of the top colleges and universities in the country, such as North Carolina School of the Arts, New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, Purchase Conservatory of Dance, Syracuse University, New World School in Miami, and Julliard.
The New York Institute of Dance and Education Applied Study Program is a truly unique approach to teaching a myriad of performing arts genres coupled with business administration, and provides a tangible and immediate ability to apply the information learned. Through Applied Study, candidates are able to learn the widest variety of information, with no limitations that would sequester them to a single arts discipline, such as Dance Major, Drama Major, Technical Design Major, etc. Rather, the Applied Study Program is designed to mirror the reality of the arts industry, where merit is based on the number of skill sets a person brings to a company or project.
However, the Applied Study Program is even more than that. No matter the artistic discipline, nor the expanded artistic conclusion, the Applied Study Program simultaneously teaches business, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills that will allow candidates to be equally comfortable and accepted in a corporate environment, as they would be in an artistic one.
The Applied Study Program achieves this by allowing for the greatest amount of exposure. Candidates take a wide variety of classes that include:
- more than 20 hours of dance classes a week (and others performing arts studies when requested)
- 6 hours a week of business administration via practical office experience
- private coaching 2 hours a week
In addition, students will attend Teacher Training Courses, where they work in the studio side-by-side with our international faculty, getting an intimate and hands-on ability to readjust a person, moments after the teacher training, allowing for the highest amount of retention. Likewise, extra business application happens in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
The N.Y.I.D.E. is a nationally recognized company that aids corporations and performing arts institutions in running highly efficient businesses around the country. This interaction gives our Applied Study candidates rare opportunities to be mentored and gain insight into business application. Whenever there is a particular business challenge or success, candidates are called in to observe the particular problem solving skills.
With the Applied Study Program, there is also an incredible amount of field training, where candidates accompany faculty members and executive staff around the country, where they receive real-time implementation of the subject matter talked about in class.
These field training opportunities include initial meetings, planning sessions, personnel trainings, corporate lectures, staff trainings, concerts, international tours, humanitarian campaigns, recording sessions, television appearances, radio interviews, charity events, keynote engagements, entertaining dignitaries, and setting up an execution of travel arrangements and accommodations. Candidates initially start off by shadowing the opportunities, move to a position of assistant, and normally within 6 months graduate to the initial contact person required to execute many of these tasks within fully functioning productions, tours, or events.
The result is the cultivation of four key characteristics for success across industries:
- Superior Skills & Experience
- Professionalism
- Adaptability
- Creativity
